Job Description

La Rabida Children’s Hospital is hiring a full-time Clinical Screener II for the Behavioral Health Department in Chicago, IL.

This is a hybrid position.

This is a grant-funded position and not eligible for hospital-issued increases. Should the grant funding be diminished or ended this position will be terminated.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Screener II serves as an Integrated Assessment Clinical Screener, utilizing program-specific assessment tools to evaluate child/client functioning and identify necessary community and social supports. This role involves conducting clinical interviews with children, birth parents, and other key adults in the child’s life, developing comprehensive IA reports, and supporting the implementation of care plans based on the assessment findings.

Essential Clinical Screener II Functions:

  • Reviews prior records and documentation related to each case—such as Juvenile Court, DCFS, medical, school, and mental health—and integrates the information into the Integrated Assessment (IA) report.
  • Conducts IA interviews in the child’s home with DCFS wards, caregivers, birth parents, and other key adults to determine necessary services, treatments, and supports that promote permanency outcomes.
  • Administers required developmental and mental health screening tools based on client age and role, submits tools and referrals to DCFS per federal/contract timelines, and ensures alignment with the final IA report.
  • Prepares comprehensive IA reports summarizing historical data, interview findings, and relevant legal and medical information from multiple sources including child welfare and court systems.
  • Meets with the Permanency Worker and Supervisor to review findings and develop service plans, attempts to attend family meetings for 30 days post-staffing, and provides support during implementation.
  • Maintains communication with all parties throughout the IA process, participates in case consultations, and engages in monthly training and professional development activities.

What we need from you:

  • Education: Ph.D./Psy.D., LCSW, or LCPC. Psychologists, counselors, and social workers must be licensed in Illinois. Psychologists must have completed an APA-accredited internship in clinical child or pediatric psychology.
  • Related Work Experience: Three years of post-graduate experience with the population of children served by this program. Must have child welfare experience
  • Licensure/Certification: Illinois Clinical Licensure and valid Driver’s License, access to an automobile, adequate insurance ( La Rabida strongly recommends that the employee maintain the following liability limits: Automobile liability/$100,000 per person per accident; bodily injury/$300,000 aggregate per accident; property damage/$50,000 per accident; and automobile medical payments/$1,000 per person)
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Excellent verbal and writing abilities are essential, as are a high level of computer skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to interact with all personnel involved in this program – children, parents, foster parents, relatives of children, DCFS staff, community agency staff, physicians, peers, government agencies, school personnel, etc. Must have access to an automobile and maintain adequate auto insurance. Also requires the use of a personal cell phone.

Compensation Information:
Pay Range: $67,000 - $76,000
