Engineering Manager – Custom Product Manufacturing

📍 Waukesha County | Onsite | Leadership Role in Post-Order Engineering

💲 $125K–$140K base + bonus (10% of EBITDA; prorated for 2025)

🕒 Schedule: M–F, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | OT as needed | No regular work-from-home

An established and growing manufacturer of custom mechanical components is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager / Team Lead to help lead and coach a diverse engineering team responsible for post-order product design and production support. This role will be a key addition to the department, working alongside a long-tenured leader who is planning for retirement in the coming years.

🧭 Position Overview

This is a strategic leadership role focused on engineering workflow management , team development , and cross-functional collaboration . The Engineering Manager will play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate execution of customer-driven product designs, while leading initiatives to improve documentation, manufacturability, and cost accuracy.

This is not an individual contributor role—strong team-building, project leadership, and process optimization skills are required.

👥 Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 14 engineers focused on post-order custom product design and production support
  • Oversee and improve internal engineering workflows, documentation standards, and project execution
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, purchasing, planning, sales, finance, and external vendors
  • Establish and manage KPIs for quality, on-time delivery, and team utilization
  • Standardize best practices for BOMs, routings, and technical documentation
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and mentorship to engineering staff
  • Lead complex, cross-departmental projects and design reviews
  • Foster a collaborative, problem-solving culture with an emphasis on ownership and continuous improvement

🛠 Technical & Industry Environment

  • 3D CAD: Autodesk Inventor (preferred)
  • ERP: Siteline
  • Heavy use of configurators and custom design platforms
  • Products involve metals, elastomers, plastics , and precision mechanical assemblies
  • Project timelines typically range from a few weeks to a few months— not clean-sheet NPD
  • Must be comfortable with hands-on production environments (some talc is used in the shop)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 7–10 years of experience in design and manufacturing engineering
  • 5+ years in engineering management within a custom manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and component design (machined, fabricated, molded, or assembled products)
  • Experience leading technical teams and managing cross-functional initiatives
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD , ERP systems , and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills—must be able to influence without direct authority

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience with regulated industries (Medical, Aerospace, Defense, Transportation)
  • Familiarity with quality, compliance, and documentation standards in complex manufacturing environments

🧠 What Makes You a Strong Fit

  • You thrive in dynamic, iterative engineering environments
  • You’re comfortable balancing technical leadership and people management
  • You’re hands-on, willing to spend time on the floor , and not hung up on titles
  • You enjoy mentoring engineers and building team alignment across functions
  • You’re not looking for a “lateral move”—you want to drive change and build capability

🎁 Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary : $125K–$140K DOE
  • Bonus : 10% of EBITDA (prorated for 2025)
  • PTO : 3 weeks standard (4 weeks negotiable)
  • 401(k) with match , medical/dental/vision, life insurance, FSA/HSA, employee assistance program
  • Paid jury duty, referral & retirement programs, and other perks

This is a rare opportunity to step into a visible, strategic engineering leadership role at a stable and growing company. With support from experienced leadership and a collaborative culture, the right person will help guide this team into the next chapter.
