Opportunity

The Food Scientist (Animal Nutrition) will work closely with the leadership and R&D teams to develop and improve products through formulation, process management, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead product development and optimization
  • Manage prototyping, formulation, pilot production, and scale-up
  • Develop high-quality sustainable products using new and existing raw materials
  • Collaborate on market research to understand consumer trends
  • Communicate formula limitations to stakeholders
  • Support manufacturing and quality teams with technical expertise
  • Maintain nutritional and labeling databases
  • Create and review nutritional panels for packaging
  • Resolve quality issues with department heads, customers, and suppliers
  • Ensure production goals and process optimization

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to compliance with policies, quality standards, and safety procedures
  • Continue education on processing equipment and ingredient functionality
  • Communicate safety and quality concerns to leadership
  • Assist production and quality control personnel with problem-solving

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Food Science, Animal Science, Nutrition/Dietetics, Chemical Engineering, or related field, or 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in new product development with a focus on animal nutrition
  • Self-motivated with a sense of urgency
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with problem-solving tools
  • Understanding of the consumer goods industry, preferably in animal health/wellness
